CareerSource Polk, Spartan Youth Initiatives, George Jenkins High School Boys Basketball Program, and several other community organizations recognize that there is more to life than sports. While we sincerely believe that sports plays a key role in the development of our young men, we also understand the need to focus on the total person. Our Gentleman’s Institute serves to teach young men to be gentlemen and to respect themselves and others.

The Gentleman’s Institute is a week-long program designed to address the basic necessities that every young man should practice. The program will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day and will teach the young men about respect, integrity, manners, work ethics and more. The curriculum is based on the book 50 Things Every Young Gentleman Should Know by John Bridges.

Thanks to our 2016 sponsors!

Some things the young men will learn include:

  • How to tie a tie and how to iron
  • How to accept/reject a gift
  • Proper dining etiquette (including proper table conversation)
  • Proper grooming and hygiene
  • Telephone etiquette
  • How to properly write a thank-you note
  • And much more
The Gentleman’s Institute Faculty consists of prominent businessmen including the CEOs, vice presidents, attorneys, and executive chefs. Each day is filled with information that will arm our youth with effective tools for success. The grand finale is a graduation and fine dining experience (July 2) where the young men demonstrated proper dining etiquette while also imparting some of the knowledge that they acquired onto their parents.
